We have resumed our monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month.
Our next meeting is on February 9 at 10:30 am.
At the last meeting of the Women's Guild on December 9th, the ladies wrapped Christmas boxes for the Seafarers who dock at the Port of Houston. Many of the seafarers do not have an opportunity to leave the ship for 12-13 months. Churches and groups around the Houston area wrap "goodie" boxes consisting of playing cards, deodorant, shampoo, popcorn, socks, gloves, hats, and other essentials that the men and women are not able to get while they are confined to their vessel. The boxes are given out at their annual Christmas celebration. Our ladies delivered the boxes to the Seafarers Center at the Port on December 9th. During a normal year, Cardinal DiNardo celebrates Mass for those who bring the boxes, followed by a delicious lunch and exchange of gifts. Unfortunately, due to COVID, that could not happen. Delivering the boxes, however, and seeing the many hundreds of boxes brought to the Center is heartwarming and a blessing.
St. Philip's Women's Guild is hosting their annual Membership Drive on Saturday, November 7th through Sunday, November 8th. You are invited to join this dedicated and amazing group of ladies who work together throughout the year to serve the Church and the Church family.
What are some specific service opportunities in joining the Women's Guild?
Members of the Women's Guild help Father Barker gather and prepare many of the items needed for him to better serve our parish family; they help with the washing and ironing of the altar linens; they donate flowers for the altar; and they host receptions whenever it is necessary. Basically, this team of service-minded women bands together whenever and wherever they are needed.
What is required for membership?
Membership dues for 2020-21 are $20.00 which you pay with cash or check. Make checks payable to St. Philip Catholic Church Women's Guild. You can also choose to be an active member or an inactive member.
How do I sign up?
Just visit the Women's Guild table after any of the Masses held on Saturday, November 7th or Sunday, November 8th.
First meeting?
The first meeting for the Women’s Guild will be Tuesday, November 10th at 10:30 a.m. in the parish hall.
We welcome new members throughout the August-May year. We have monthly meetings and fellowship luncheons which are from September to May. Please refer to our event announcements, our St. Philip MyParish smartphone app and newsletter.
The Women's Guild is about parish women enjoying life in Christ together. Our members celebrate the warmth, talents, experiences, and feelings of one another as we work and pray together.
We assist the pastor in the spiritual and corporal work of caring for God's house. Our ministry provides personal service to the care of the sanctuary and sacristy. In addition, we provide financial assistance through our Catholic gifts, bake sales, and other designated parish activities. These tasks are carried out in the spirit of familial charity and fellowship.
We are open to having others in our lives, and we hope our new members will include YOU!
We are always in need of beautiful floral arrangements for our Church altar. Please sign up at the Women's Guild calendar book located at the glass case counter by the front door.
Parishioners who sign up and make the suggested donation of $50.00 may honor loved ones or commemorate special events in their lives within the church bulletin.
