St. Philip the Apostle holds the protection of our children and vulnerable adults of utmost importance. All volunteers at our parish must take classes and submit background checks to ensure the safety of all. We adhere and follow the protocols of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
The Archdiocese has implemented the new CMG Connect Safe Haven program to educate clergy, staff, and volunteers about ways to create a safe environment for all children and teens. The program trains adults to recognize the warning signs and how to respond appropriately.
All volunteers, staff, and clergy 18 years of age and older are required to complete the training program. In addition, a background check will be conducted prior to volunteering or employment.
For New Volunteers: Please select REGISTER on the CMG Connect Safe Haven link below to begin. Please register with your legal name as it appears on your driver's license. You will be required to complete a background check and to watch an online video class. The total time for the class is about 1 hour. Within two weeks we will receive approval from the Archdiocese that you may volunteer.
For Existing Volunteers: Our former Safe Environment Program, Virtus, transferred all training and approvals to CMG Connect Safe Haven. You will be required to complete a background check and online class after the five year anniversary of taking your last class. Please go to the link below and go to the upper right hand corner and select 'Sign-In'. You will put in your current Virtus ID or email you signed up with and the temporary password 1234. You will be required to change your password once signed in. Please check your profile and update all information. Then follow the prompts for the background check and online class.
