On Sunday, May 19, St Philip celebrated seven of our high school and college seniors at a Graduation Mass where they received a very special blessing from Father Barker. Afterward, the graduates, friends and family enjoyed a reception in their honor in the parish hall. It was a special time to come together and celebrate these “kids” that we have seen grow up in our parish. Through CCE, sacraments, VBS, and parish ministry, these young adults have deepened their faith while also serving the parish and the greater community.
Hearing the many accolades and achievements they have earned outside of these Church walls, we know they will shine bright, keeping God first, in their next adventures.
Congratulations and good luck to Texas A&M graduate Elizabeth Alvarez who plans to pursue a law degree next. Megan Canavan will attend Texas A&M to study business. Stefania Gutierrez is also going to Texas A&M to study Nursing. Jackie Kubiak plans to attend Lee College to become an Ultrasound Technician. Jake Phillips will attend Blinn College in Bryan and study Agricultural Business. Cade Richard is heading to Louisiana State University to pursue a degree in Natural Resource Ecology and Management. Andrew Wight is also headed to LSU to study Chemical Engineering.
During the reception, Grand Knight Frank Campisi and Scholarship Chairman Chris Cupples announced the recipients of this year’s Knights of Columbus Council #9794 Sylvester Leonards Scholarships in the amount of $1000 each.
Congratulations to Megan Canavan, Stefania Gutierrez, Jackie Kubiak and Cade Richard. Job well done!
