For Advent, our middle and high school students kept the true focus of the season by doing Advent Buddies. Each student selected another member of their class to be their secret 'Advent Buddy'. The idea is similar to a secret Santa, but the focus was on messages of faith and hope during the Advent season. We had shoe holders in the parish hall that served as mailboxes for the delivery of these special thoughts. During the three weeks of Advent we had class, the kids wrote little notes of encouragement in their faith journey to their 'buddy' and placed them in their buddy's “mailbox” on their way to class. After the initial giggles and “but what do I write?” the kids really appreciated this simple reminder to reach out to their friends with a kind note. We hope they carry this lesson of thoughtfulness with them throughout the year.
Wednesday CCE adopted one of the families in need through our Mary’s Blessings ministry. Because the youth were so generous last year, we chose a family of 6 this year to spread the wealth a bit. The kids bought and wrapped presents for the child they were given. We were so touched by the generosity of our CCE families! Once again, we were able to share some of our blessings with a family that could use our support.
The sixth and seventh grade CCE class is off to a great start. We are so happy to welcome our sixth-graders into the middle and high school program. We are excited to watch them grow! In class, we have been talking about trusting God. Through Old Testament Bible stories, such as Noah’s Ark, as well as modern-day examples of hardships middle schoolers may face in everyday life, students are learning what it means to have true faith. We ended class with an awesome rap, featuring the rhythms of our amazing students.
All parents will be asked to volunteer during 1-2 (more if you’d like!) CCE classes. Your child’s CCE program is run purely by parent volunteers. We CAN NOT be successful without the help of all parents. This is especially true for our Wednesday night class, where your help is especially critical. Religious education is an important class for your child and we need you to be as involved as you are with their daily schooling. We are looking forward to working with all of you. This will be a beautiful way to share your love of Christ and your own faith journey with your children.
We are glad to be starting our new CCE year at our beautiful St. Philip campus. The rooms are ready to go, the Bibles are waiting to be read, and your rosaries are ready to be prayed. We are just waiting for you to return! Our Catechists have missed you all during this extended break.
Parents– Please consider being a part of this important ministry! The following classes are in need of Catechists: 3rd grade, 4th/5th combined class, 8th grade, and high school. We have amazing resources for your use and a group of dedicated Catechists to help get you started. For more information email Becky at bpursell@stphilip.cc
Any necessary Covid protocols will be in place.
We are happy to offer online registration this year! All forms and payments will be completed using the online link provided. Once submitted, there is no need to stop by the registration table. We hope this will streamline the process and ensure accurate information. If you need assistance, we will have limited forms available on registration weekend (Aug. 22-23 & Aug. 29-30) and will be taking payment (cash, check, & CC).
St. Philip's middle school youth group spent Saturday,
February 29th from 1pm - 4 pm serving and feeding the hungry. Our young parishioners enjoyed coming together at the Houston Food Bank while working on a Corporal Work of Mercy.
They helped prepare 21,600 Backpack Buddy weekend meal bags for those in need. Their time and hard work made a sufficient impact for the needy.
