Lay men and women assist the Church’s clergy by offering Holy Communion during Sunday Mass or on holy days of obligation as “extraordinary” ministers. The “ordinary” ministers of Holy Communion are the clergy. Just as our clergy appreciate the assistance of lay men and women in the Mass, they enjoy the help of parish members in taking communion to the homebound.
The “homebound” are parishioners who are physically unable to attend Mass at St. Philip. They are confined to their homes or assisted living facilities for various reasons. After a Sunday or Holy Day Mass, our extraordinary ministers will visit them where they live, praying, offering Holy Communion and visiting for a short time.
Arranging a Communion Visit
If you (or a loved one) are temporarily or permanently homebound and wish to receive Holy Communion at your residence, please call our parish office to discuss arrangements.
Rosemont Assisted Living Community, Kingwood
Mass is offered at Rosemont Assisted Living on the first Wednesday of each month. On other weeks, Catholic lay men and women bring the consecrated hosts to our Catholic residents.
If you are interested in volunteering for this rewarding community outreach, please contact us to make the necessary arrangements. Men and women who wish to serve are trained carefully and must be approved in writing by the archbishop’s office.
