    • St. Philip offers parishioners a variety of ministries in which to become active members of our parish family. Involvement in a parish ministry or in an organization such as the Knights of Columbus, is a wonderful way to do good while also strengthening bonds with fellow parishioners. Whether you are just entering adulthood, raising a family or enjoying retirement, there is one or more ministry that may be a great fit for you!

  • Serving God and Others

    • Disciples of Jesus and Mary (DJM)

The Disciples of Jesus and Mary were founded by Fr. Santan Pinto, a priest of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT). We have been active in our parish since 2005. Our goal is to form the laity for growth in holiness and service to the Church.

      What we offer

Our initial formation includes prayer, discernment and discipleship. Our goal is to follow Jesus, along with Mary, and to reach greater union with God. During our ongoing formation, we continue to study Church teachings. We live the life of disciples and we perform specific missions by serving the needs of the parish, under the direction of our pastor.

      What is required for membership

DJM is open to all adult parishioners. There is no membership fee. There is a cost for the Formation Manual and books used at each phase of formation. For more information about DJM see here. Link

    • Knights of Columbus (Council 9794)

The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic fraternal service organization. It was founded in 1882 by Blessed Michael J. McGivney. The Knights of Columbus are brothers, a network of men in communities around the world dedicated to doing good in the service of God and neighbor. We are dedicated to the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. The KofC has over two million members in over 16,000 councils worldwide. For more than two decades, our local council has played an important role and helped meet various needs
      in St. Philip parish.

      What we do

There is no better way to show love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we respond to daily through acts of charity. We enjoy our fellowship and fundraising efforts, and we take pleasure in participating in parish ministries. We all share a bond of patriotism. Many of our members have served honorably in the US military. Knights of Columbus “turnouts” are an expression of our faith, as we participate in spiritual events such as Confirmations, Holy Week liturgies, and funerals.

To assist and financially support various local activities, the Knights hold several fundraisers and annual events. Some of these include:
      • brisket, pork rib, chili, and tamale sales
      • parish breakfasts and dinners
      • Lenten dinners
      • golf tournament.

Among the causes we support are:
      • Humble Birthright and other pro-life initiatives
      • parish Confirmation Retreat
      • Catholic Youth Convention (AYC)
      • clergy and seminarian needs
      • parish spring picnic
      • campus maintenance and improvements
      • college scholarships
      • co-sponsored projects with other St. Philip ministries.

With the support and guidance of our pastor, the Knights Council 9794 will continue to respond to the needs of our parish and community.

      Why join?

Many men have joined the Knights in response to an invitation by members serving in other ministries. New members’ contributions to our Catholic men’s fraternal team are very much appreciated. We all benefit from their unique gifts and support. As our Grand Knight points out: “Over the years, for sure, the Knights of Columbus have done more for my spiritual and personal growth than I have contributed to the KofC.” For more information about the Knights of Columbus, see here. • Mary's Blessings

Since 2015, Mary’s Blessings Ministry has been working with Christian and non-governmental organizations who provide for the needy. We also assist local individuals and families with emergency financial assistance. Our members build friendships, reflect on our mission, pray for guidance and ask for spiritual growth to enrich our service to the less fortunate.

      What we do

In a spirit of charity and generosity, we seek to assist the needy in a variety of ways. Our efforts include:

      • Organizing two food drives a year (one in the spring and one in the fall) in support of the Huffman Food Pantry
      • Holding an annual shower for Birthright Humble (held during the summer)
      • Working with Huffman ISD to provide Christmas gifts for needy children
      • Responding to phone calls from local residents seeking emergency financial assistance.

    • Prime Timers

Since the early 1990s, Prime Timers have bonded during outings and various events. These provide opportunities for participants to enjoy fellowship, fun, and food with other parishioners and to create new friendships. Participants enrich their lives through camaraderie with other parishioners.

      When we meet

We try to schedule an event/outing monthly. To be included on the contact list and receive notifications of upcoming events, please contact Sammy Dennard (see below).

      What is required for membership

Any adult member of St. Philip parish age 55 and older is welcome to join at any time. There is no membership fee, but outings and events often have fees attached. (Outings requiring a Precinct bus must have 15 participants.)
