Celebration of the Eucharist occurs each day in every monastery, convent, cathedral, oratory and humble parish throughout the world. Our St. Philip faith community invites you to participate in the rich fare of God’s bountiful kingdom in our Eucharistic celebrations.
When you partake of the “food of angels” (Lat. panis angelicus), you receive “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” [Rom 14:17] and ascend to the “source and the summit of the whole of the Church’s worship and of the Christian life.” [Vatican Council II]
The joy of the Eucharist will remain with you even to eternity. The Eucharist comforts and strengthens you even in the moment of your greatest difficulty and deepest sorrow. The Eucharist will change you forever. St. Augustine of Hippo (+ 430 AD) understood the transforming power of the Lord’s Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in Holy Eucharist: "If you have received worthily, you are what you have received, for the Apostle says, 'the bread is one; we though many, are one body.'” [Augustine of Hippo, Sermon]
Fasting and Abstinence Before Mass
Catholics fast for one hour from all food and liquids (except water /medication) before receiving Holy Communion. This spiritual practice helps us to appreciate the extraordinary gift of Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity we receive in the Eucharistic celebration.
